In the current release a hired thug will sell to a player owned hangar if given the command ORDER <thug>,SUPPLY,<hangar> - to cancel the order use ORDER <thug>,SUPPLY
I have not tested this feature with Max's recent economy mod. This info relates to the standard UIM06 economy.
There are several points to remember when using this command.
1) The hangar must be player owned, public with sales enabled.
2) The thug must be in a moth - he will get his own pod if need be.
3) If there is not enough money in your hangar to buy any goods the thug will NOT trade.
4) If the thug has not got enough money to buy any items, it will NOT trade.
5) If your buy prices are set to low the thug will not sell you that particular item.
6) If you rename the hangar after issuing this order to a thug, you must resissue the order.
The thugs decision making is based on your max stock levels and current stock levels. He will choose to supply an item only when the current stock is less than half the max stock level.
Eg: If your Max-buy for Ore is 50 the thug will only decide to go and buy you some ore when the stock falls below 25.
I would not recommend on setting your max-buys much above about 60 (less for more expensive items) or your thug may concentrate on just the one commodity.
The thug is also quite picky about your buy price - he's only doing your dirty work so he can make a profit after all. Generally he will only trade an item if your buy price is about 12.5% more than the minimum sale price in the factories. Some suggested minimum buy prices are below - this should still leave you room to manufacture profitably on nearly all items.
